Quick Summary
This discussion clarifies Section 80D tax deductions for senior citizens. It addresses whether both health insurance premiums and medical expenses can be claimed. The consensus suggests that a senior citizen can claim a total deduction of Rs 42,000, combining their health insurance premium payment and medical treatment expenses.

You claim only Rs. 12000/- paid to health insurance premium

you can claim both Rs. 42,000 u/s 80D

You can claim only rs 12000 paid towards health insurance. In case of senior citizens, they can claim medical expenditure upto 50000 under 80D only if no health insurance is taken or available.
