Dear All,

I wish to bring your kind attention towards the true story of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, a statutory body of Govt of India and wish you make you aware of how ethics and conducts are practiced and breached at the ICAI.

In ICAI, CA students join the course with a hope that some formal classes will be conducted and they will get some knowledge transfer from some professors of high ethical values but the scene is reversed. The students are compelled to do articleship in a CA firm right from the beginning where they are given the training of how to manipulate the data and hide the facts.

The students are 'forced' and 'compelled' to do wrong and unethical things like making FAKE balance sheets, profit & loss A/c., FAKE vouchers, FAKE entries, in the books of accounts, preparing FAKE audit reports and annual reports and filing FAKE income/sales tax returns Etc. This is not the end of the story and it is just a beginning of nurturing and producing a white collar criminal. It is easy to fight with the terrorism across the borders but difficult to fight with these internal criminals. As an output of this CA articleship in the so called CA firms, a trained and sophisticated white collar criminal is produced who is 'licensed' to do the wrong and unethical things by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. The famous Satyam scam is just a small example of the above.

Being a sincere student of ICAI for a decade, I have concrete evidences of all such mal-practices along with proposed effective root cause and solutions for correcting our system and a formal application about it has already been filed at the Ministry of HRD, Govt of India and to the President of India.

First of all- Yes such instances of askin (not forcing or compeeling) students to do such wrong and unethical things does happen. But this mail is really a spam. For these are few incidents and are not the majority.

It's not that the profession is unethical but only that the individual is unethical. You can't expect each and everyone in the profession to be ethical cos the character of each person differs.In today's world being a proffessional mostly requires intelligence and not ethics. Of course ethics is very important not just as professional but as a human. But many fails to understand that cos in this dog eat dog world there is an illusion that money is everything. Thus every profession has unethical persons.

Coming back to this mail- I think it's been spread by a person out of agony caused by his failures ( to quote " BEING A SINCERE ICAI STUDENT FOR A DECADE") If this person had become a CA he wud probably hav nothing to say about ethics. So it's no point supporting his mail.

It's like the entire corruption in or country is bcos of CAs.Yes there is corruption but it wud not even be 1percent of the entire corruption here in our country. Remember some CAs are corrupt not bcos they want to be corrupt but bcos their clients want them to be corrupt. Ofcourse Iam not supporting these corrupt people. I just wanted to say dont regard everyone as corrupt bcos of them.

Hi Dear Friends and Community Members, A Very Warm Hello to All of You and Wish You A Very Happy New Year. What kind of Feelings this fellow has had regarding the entire ICAI. ICAI had neither Trained nor inspired any CA with any Vicious Motives. Perhaps neither any education nor any Religion in this World talks of Destructive Ideas or Negative Values or Unethical Behaviour. It is some persons with Gross Humiliations and Inferiority Complexes who involve them into various malpractices. So it would be grossly unjust to put all of them at the same front. Based on the wrongs done by some of the CAs or Other Professionals, we cannot blame Our Institute to be indulged into such things also. Scams today have become the part & parcel of our Society. But perhaps the reasons are we People and our behaviour towards our Society, our Nation. Good and Bad People are in every walk of Life but to cut it short Honorable Kiran Bedi can’t be compared with DGP Rathore. A lot can be said and discussed. But first of all we have to change ourselves before making such allegations and one thing Nation can’t be made Strong by making Plans, etc. It is the responsibility of Each & Every Citizen to make their Nation Great & Strong. One more thing by putting such allegations you had also put a question mark on the Credibility of all the CAs who are genuinely involved in their practice and their work and thereby contributing towards the development of their Society as well as their Nation. So please don’t allege that every CA is a Terrorist. I may be wrong or may be Right, but one thing I believe is that good and Bad People are there but we have to keep this Work Get Going with a Positive Hope of a Stronger Nation which we can and with all of our endeavour we will With Regards, Rahul Mahajan

The allegations put forward by Chirag Sawant is more of personal frustration rather than a real issue. As Vijay puts it- there is nothing unethical about our profession, it is the person concerned who is unethical. Ethics and values are more personal than professional. To control professional ethics, regulators have framed standards of ethics in our ICAI Act schedules for members. At every point of time, a member has to walk on the tight rope of this ethical balance.. It is his journey and he faces the consequences too. This is the case with every profession- be it lawyers or MBA etc. Lawyers are infact branded as liers, but does that make their profession any less honourable. There are many ethical lawyers and judges whom we look up to with respect.There are many honorable auditors too.. including my auditor who was bold enough to put forward his point without bothering of consequences. He was naturally not reappointed. Satyam scam has nothing to do with ethics of our profession. We are hand tied at the hands of Board of Company. True independence is an illusion. Regulators can only find ways and means to strengthen and close the loopholes by rotation of auditors, reducing the no of audits etc but Independence and ethics are purely subjective.

If Chirag sawant has a problem, let him prove his ethical behaviour by pursuing CA honourably and practicing it rather then making an issue of it and requesting others to join it. No one can force another person to commit a crime or fraud or unethical act , unless he himself bends down.
