How to remember so many provisions especially for non residents and make calculations perfect for exam please suggest tips for preparation for Direct Tax

I have appeared Final Exams, In DT , I have observed that the Examiner generally avoid to examine a student on the basis of his/her Memory Power only. It does not mean that you do not require to memorise anything, but means that the things which are apparently based on pure Memory has a very low chance to Appear in exam hall.
Personally, I avoided so many topics in final examination From NRI, Tonnage Taxation, etc
