Friends I am not very comfortable with ITSM.... I appeared for May 2012 but faired poorly as per my estimations particularly in this paper.... Hence I have started preparing for November... Please suggest what should be the right approach for studying ITSM.... Will solving the RTPs of Nov 11, May 12 and Nov 12 and Model Test Papers of May 12 and Nov 12 be enough?

hi,

ITSM was smething that gave me a bit of shivers before the exams as well...but den in the end i guess i have dne pretty well in it....see the thing for SM is simple....stick simply stick to the ICAI textbook and nothing else....maybe u can go thru the volune 2 ince here nd there..the texbook is very simple and easy to learn..dnt have to be perefect wid every word...know the side headings and be clear with the idea...u can have it in ur own words...hence ull need ntn oder than textbook....

coming to IT....get notes..from newhere...see the main idea is to be strong wid imp topics..nd all notes provide the pretty imp ones....here u conc on volume 2 nd rtps...they ll help..by the end ull cover eerything maybe a ques or 2 might be unknown but on the whole u can definitely score very commandable marks in the subject..

I think completion of ITT will give some practical knoledge to understand IT in a better way.

Hey dude..i wont be recommending any particular books to you, since there will be a divided opinion among many of us. So I trust you to choose what is best for you. Anyways, make sure you understand the concept in SM. Since we are CA students, the terms in SM will be quite familiar. So we will be able to replace certain words here and there without making a drastic change to the answer.

I dont know how proficient you are in IT. I'd suggest you to use Padhuka's book. It is quite vast. But basically it is Institute Material given in points. So the ultimate call is yours. In my experience its better that you write and learn IT (only IT). Im not all that good when it comes to computer terms. So what happened to me was, while learning I kind of read through and I quite understood the basic thing. But once I started writing the exam, it wasnt easy. You cant write in your own terms like you do in case of SM. IT require its own terms in its proper places. So it is improtant to get that momentum early. Thus, since you have already started preparing, you have ample amount of time. So I suggest that you write and learn IT. Best of luck. Cheers

SM: 80% yes, but u need to learn d answers thoroughly(i.e. u should b using relevant terms). By seeing the pattern you will come to know u can chalk out 2-3 questions from each chapter. same old repeating....

IT: Can't help, it's like G.K. to me... & only dat much wont do..... get a general info about as much as u can about computers & stuff......

solving past paper will definitely help....but go through ICAI module will benefit you...refer only only ICAI module and dont go for any rubbish authors ...they just try to fool students and people and get to earn profits.

I would strictly suggest you to refer ICAI module for SM.Read the module slowly for atleast 3-4 times and parallely go on highlighting the crux of the concept(special staments or words)

Once you follow this you'll definately enjoy SM as i think paper of SM is some extent dependent upon the writing and linguistic abilities of a candidate

I had referred dinesh madan for both and it was really awesome ...

For IT subject, I would still advise you to make notes from DInesh madan book ..... because even after understanding everything it takes too much time to revise the concept once again ...

and in case u made ur own notes ... It will  be a lot easier to read

and about the modules .......sorry to say but I hadn't even touched them. In SM whatever I had read from modules .... I forgot the same and it was hard to make gist of the same. So I couldn't think to touch module for info tech atleast ...

before starting prepare for something ......

u need to surely focus on safe areas .... Like Flow chart which comes around 10 marks + easy to make ... So I will advise you to choose topics like that.

and I had even did 2 RTPs and  compilers to go through the papers ... So it was all good enough and I still remember that no question was alien to me in exam hall ...  My marks got reduced just because I didn't made the perfect planning and couldn't have the time to revise the subject .....

I got 66 marks ...  I made notes even just before 14 days from exams.  So I guess......If u do follow all this ...u will surely get  good marks atleast more than me.

dinesh madaan with practice module is best
