A Glass of Milk - Paid in Full

One day, a poor boy who was selling goods from door to door to pay his way through school, found he had only one thin dime left, and he was hungry. He decided he would ask for a meal at the next house. However, he lost his nerve when a lovely young woman opened the door. Instead of a meal he asked for a drink of water. She thought he looked hungry so brought him a large glass of milk. He drank it slowly, and then asked, “How much do I owe you?” “You don’t owe me anything,” she replied. “Mother has taught us never to accept pay for a kindness.” He said, “Then I thank you from my heart.”

As Howard Kelly left that house, he not only felt stronger physically, but his faith in God and man was strong also. He had been ready to give up and quit.

Year’s later that young woman became critically ill. The local doctors were baffled. They finally sent her to the big city, where they called in specialists to study her rare disease. Dr. Howard Kelly was called in for the consultation. When he heard the name of the town she came from, a strange light filled his eyes. Immediately he rose and went down the hall of the hospital to her room. Dressed in his doctor’s gown he went in to see her. He recognized her at once. He went back to the consultation room determined to do his best to save her life. From that day he gave special attention to the case.

After a long struggle, the battle was won. Dr. Kelly requested the business office to pass the final bill to him for approval. He looked at it, then wrote something on the edge and the bill was sent to her room. She feared to open it, for she was sure it would take the rest of her life to pay for it all. Finally she looked, and something caught her attention on the side of the bill. She began to read the following words:

“Paid in full with one glass of milk”

Signed, Dr. Howard Kelly.

Yes an act of Kindness done today will not only help someone but will also make that someone realize the importnace of such kindness and in future he will also show this kindness himself. Somewhere down the line our small contribution will not only help a needful but will also be rewarded by the master siting upstairs in some form or the other.

We have one such oppurtunity of extending our support to a boy suffering from Brain Tumor, M. Karthik. The details may please be seen from the link given below, through which we tried to raise funds for his treatment.

"Help Needed..Please Save Karthik"

Please help a needful person to the best of you abilities be it Karthik or someone else.

Really a nice message

Very good story with a good moral Bayya

Almost all the things we have in our life may loss any time like money ,beauty ,status etc..what remain with us is the good word we done and the kindness and the help we do to others..My mother always says ,If we do a good work today God will see that and surely get a good rewards for that..May be it take some time .Likewise we have to suffer for all the bad works also..We may think what we get when we help others..what we actually geting is a mental satisfaction and the blessings that never can valued in terms of money and which is the most important things to achieve anything in life..IF we do any bad work may be we get a success at the time but that wont b last long..so plz plz show your kindnes towards Karthik .Just contribute some amount which is possible for u all.

"Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around."

Now, the question that we must ask ourselves - do we really want to turn another person's life around ???

To whom it is needed - saving karthik

yes...Help needed from everyone... if not monetary.., please suggest any organisations, schemes.., instittutions which work for such needed people.., or please refer this case to them.., we really can save his life... only as long as its in our hands..., if time is crossed... no funds or lacs of rupees wont be useful..., please act in time.., just a step ahead... towards humanity..., carrying minimum responsibility..., yaad rahe... aaj nahin karsakoge tho...kabhi nahi karpayenge... ACT IN TIME....
Realy true sir.smile. Thanku for sharing.

Very true Sanjay Bhaiya....Kindness done today is repaid to you in some or other kind in multiples. The feelings by which you do good for people and help is important . If you do something byheart and impersonally, with any expectation it will help the person and also you will get lots of enery and the satisfaction, and one day you will get reward directly from GOD and that rewards will be the best. GOD is always giving you never expecting anything from you in return. So come forward to help Kartik and save life.

what we actually geting is a mental satisfaction and the blessings that never can valued in terms of money and which is the most important things to achieve anything in life..

heart touching lines......

CCI members let's save karthik .......

Its should be our missioin because many of us are getting such an oppurtunity to go some good work known as kindness for the very first time ....so let's utilize that.

TO WHOM IT IS NEEDED

SAVING KARTHIK

There is hardly any life that has not seen death. I, too, am no exception.

That day when right before my eyes, my friend’s uncle vomited blood and died, I experienced with horror the brutal nature of death like never before. At that time, being dependent on my father for almost anything that required money, I had no other choice but to be a silent spectator to that incident. So, the jobless artist died. And I lost a very dear friend and guide.

The bond that developed between us exists even today without caring a darn about the distance that separates the two people living in the two different worlds. And with him, a hope lives in my heart. Hope – that one day, I would be able to stand beside at least one life like him...

When Vandana started telling me about the boy for whom this post is being initiated, I was having the same feeling – a feeling of helplessness that gripped me some years back. Karthik is a “20 year old boy” who is known to one of the purest and noblest souls of CCI – Varahi. The boy has a brain tumor. He has to undergo endovascular embolization – a medical procedure to cure the disease that would cost around 5 lakh rupees (by 2011 estimates) by 15th July, 2012. He comes from too poor a family to bear with such exorbitant sum. And this time too, I am not in a position to play the role of a savior all by myself.

But when she told me about the idea of CMA. CS. Sanjay Gupta, I saw light at the end of this dark tunnel – my feeling of helplessness. It has been his idea to appeal to the CCItes for donating money - whatever amount they can donate – in an effort to save the boy’s life. Of course, the CACLUBINDIA with such huge number of members has the potential to become revolutionary platform in discharging our social responsibilities. For the sake of argument, if we assume that only 3-5% members are active and they are willing to donate according to their financial status, - in future, not just this boy but many like him will owe their lives to these members of this truly great platform.

We had to exercise great caution regarding the validity of the case for two obvious reasons – money and trust. Money lost can be earned but the same is rarely true for trust. Several times over the past 2-3 weeks, Varahi contacted the family of the boy in order to collect all the relevant documents (attached herewith) that may prove that the case is a genuine one. Another member of CCI from Chennai – Eklavya, after checking the above captioned documents, has confirmed the same to be genuine. As he didn’t know about Karthik beforehand, his confirmation has added more neutrality and validity to the cause.

There is a technical problem though -

Depositing the cash to the said SBI bank account will attract minimum charges of Rs 25. So the person who are willing to contribute may raise the funds from their end and deposit the amount in the account mentioned herein above or may get the funds transferred without any charges using the online fund transfer facility. It will be very difficult to deposit the amount individually because if someone wants to contribute say Rs. 50 then he will have to pay charges of Rs 25 for depositing the amount. So Members are also requested to suggest us some other methods through which more people can contribute for this cause.

But, as I have known the respected senior members of CCI and also my friends, sisters and brothers over the last one year, such a problem would not deter them from being a part of this mission to save a life.

With this hope and belief I remain for the moment.

Regards,

Thanks for the Share....

I want to share my school time incident ....

I rarely save money in my school days. And  I was just going to home with my friend. I had Rs.5 coin in hand. An old lady was asking money on the road.. Luckily I remember that I have  money ..so I just give it to her.

My friends says you are mad ....this is all nonsense ...why are you doing it ...

my reply was ....." I don't keep money normally , if it's saved today ......may be it was just for her ....so chill and we walked to our home ....and after years I also forgot the incident ....."

And during my graduation days, I went to submit my form at DU. It was 9 am. And I needed my documents to be photocopied. My father had no coins. The shopkeeper said Rs.5.

I asked my father....he said I have no coin money ...;let's see and manage for the the same ...

the shopkeeper looked to me once and said "take the printouts and submit them. Leave this Rs.5 ....

I was surprised ...he said don't worry beta ... No need to return money even if you got the coins after sometime ...You look like my daughter. My father and I thanked him.

On the contrary, there was another girl and she  also needed to pay the same amount. But he said to her .....go to postoffice and get the change.

At that day , I remembered the old lady again. I was thanking her from inside. To be honestly, it was her blessing  which helped me in the hour of need. otherwise I would have to wait for 1/2 an hour for opening of the post office and then pay the amount ............

sometimes, we think what effect it will produce, if we helped someone. But we never thought that when we will also need some help and become helpless like other.

Moral :- A good deed never get wasted. It returns back to you when you need it the most.

So please please please join the cause and share this information with everyone around you ......

I am sure no one will feel regret if they become a part of saving someone's life.
