I think ICAI should reduce the period of articleship to 2 yrs... increase the stipend....too....

Yes it should and it might just wipe out this menace called dummy.

The Institute are real culprits and not the students. Most of the students dont take dummy just to have fun, they use that time for Finals preparation as it is difficult enough.

The problem is The Institute who has been sleeping ovet this issue for years.

I wont blame the students as the real culprits are the Firms who does such mal-pratice and the institute, if they take actions, will hammer the students the weaker ones , aginst thier own mighty Members/Firms/CAs, which just shows their double-standards and lack of teeth in ICAI Board :P

Blaming and punishing students is like hammering the small fish while the bigger ones go scot-free.

Quite true, but i will give you two examples,

recently, we took a Mr X in our Firm. Fresh CA, But 4 days into the job, we discovered that he as pucca novice. Knew nothing, just nothing about practical. Nothing of audit, nothing of tax. nothing of ITO, nothing of how to approach seniors, how to communicate in a company etc.

After 15 days of numeruous training sessions, he was ultimately, fired.

Dummy, hone se , experience nahin aata. ......... you need to work for that

BTW I am about to appear for CPT coming june. Before this I never knew anything about the whole funda of dummy articleship. It really was an eye opener.  Arent the CA's afraid of loosing of their hard earned qualification if they are caught and be banned by the ICAI. I am not aware of ICAI laws but I am sure they would have laws to end the membership of CA's who do this, right ??
