Mr. x's mother  is suffering from cancer, during the current financial year he has spend more than a lac of Rupees, on her cancer treatment.

dependent parents up to 60k eligible  but

 

Q. is he eligible for 80DDB?

A) DISEASE - CANCER!!!!

B) TREATMENT - PRIVATE HOSPITAL!!!!

 

if not for the next year any suggestion?

Yes he is eligible for 80 DDB

60k is only for Senior Citizen patient for others its 40k

Hospital is not relevant for the Section.. The disease is eligible for deduction( being Malignant Cancer)

Right , just to add one thing:

 Only the certificate in form 10-I that needs to be furnished alongwith the ROI should be from a specialist doctor working in a Government Hospital

he can claim deduction u/s 80DDB. in specified diseases hospital is not relevant and yes it is 40k for individuals not being an senior citizen.

he is eligible for deduction under section 80 DDB

amont 40000 or 60000 (for senior citizen)

treatment need not be made in govt hospital but he should  get a certificate from a specialist doctor and that doctor should be working in a govt hospital.

if any insurace claim he is getting and amont spend (minus) insuranse claim is less than the above mentioned amont, then it will be the maximum deduction.
