Hi friends

I've a query relating to 80C deductions. My question is as follows.

Suppose i borrow a housing loan of Rs.5lacs and i've got to repay it over a period of 10 years (120 installments). I've paid 12 installments. Now if i repay the entire loan amount (say 4lacs), whether shall i claim exemption for the entire amount as deduction. What is the provision contained in the Income Tax act. I'm aware of the fact that only upto Rs.1 lac can be claimed as exemption. But this being a special circumsatnce i got this query. Kindly Clarify.

YOU WILL GET DEDUCTION FOR ONLY 1 LAKH ONLY.

All deductions under Section 80C are restricted to Rs. 1,00,0000/- only

i think there is no provision that u can claim 4 lacs in one year...becus as per u/s 80C ull get max 1lac as deduction for the repayment of house loan.. if u want to claim entire 4lacs i suggest u to claim the entire amt in four years...becus if ur paying 4lacs in this yr. ull be restricted to 1lac exemptionn n ull be paying more tax as u hav nothing to claim in further yrs.. so i suggest u to claim the loan amt over a 4yrs ...

Mr. Ravellashyam the amount is 1,00,000 not 1,00,0000...its a mistype

thanks for u r reply

Yes, The amount can be claimed 1lac only.

The deduction under 80C is restricted to Rs 1 lakh. You cannot claim 4 lacs.

U can claim deduction of principal upto 1Lac and the interest portion from the complete repayment can be climed upto Rs. 1.5 Lacs under house property.

The answer given by CA Amit, is the maximum amount you can get exemption under repayment of Housing Loan.
