Advance tax payments take 2 to 4 working days to reflect in Form 26AS after you pay online. During peak filing periods (like the September 15 advance tax deadline) the lag can stretch to 5-7 days.
Here is how to verify your payment went through before 26AS updates:
Step 1: Check the bank statement or UPI/NEFT confirmation. If the debit happened and you have the BSR Code and Challan Serial Number from the payment confirmation, the payment is registered.
Step 2: Go to the OLTAS (TIN NSDL) portal and search by Challan Identification Number (CIN). If your payment shows status as processed or booked, it will appear in 26AS within a few days.
Step 3: Note that from AY 2023-24 onwards, advance tax paid appears in AIS (Annual Information Statement) first, not directly in Form 26AS. Check your AIS on the income tax portal under Services > Annual Information Statement.
If the amount is in AIS but not 26AS: this is normal. Your ITR will pick it up correctly when you file.
If the amount is not in AIS either after 7 days: raise a grievance on the income tax portal under the TDS/Advance Tax section with your Challan details.
