Quick Summary
This discussion clarifies the applicability of advance tax provisions (Sections 234B and 234C) to senior citizens. Generally, these sections do not apply to senior citizens with non-business income. However, if a senior citizen has business income, these provisions are attracted. There's confusion regarding the new e-filing portal automatically calculating interest for senior citizens, even when they are typically exempt from advance tax payments.

The provision of Section 234b and 234C does not apply to senior citizen having income other than business. If they have Business income then provision attracted.

Whether it is mentioned in the Act or some Board circular has been issued

I agree with Ankit

Can any one clarify: When senior citizens are exempted from paying advance income tax, why the new e-filing portal is adding interest on balance tax to be paid as self assessment tax now and that too within the extended due date of filing.

We can not alter the field.what we will do any body can guide me

My understanding is that interest starts accruing after the original due date of 31 July.

They only extended the date of filing the returns (because of their own incompetence and continuing disaster that is Infosys) but payment dates were not changed.
