The RBI Retail Direct Scheme is a one-stop solution that allows individual investors to invest in government securities. It provides an online portal for easy access to the government securities market.
Retail investors, defined as individuals, are eligible if they have a rupee savings bank account in India, a PAN, an officially valid document for KYC, a valid email ID, and a registered mobile number. Non-resident retail investors eligible under FEMA are also included.
The online portal allows registered users to open and maintain a 'Retail Direct Gilt Account' with the RBI, access primary issuances of government securities, and trade in the secondary market through NDS-OM.
No, there are no fees charged by the RBI for opening or maintaining a 'Retail Direct Gilt Account'. However, investors will bear any applicable payment gateway fees.
The scheme covers Government of India Treasury Bills, Government of India dated securities, Sovereign Gold Bonds (SGB), and State Development Loans (SDLs).
