FAQ :
The import policy for Integrated Circuits (ICs) and related items has been amended, making them subject to the Chip Imports Monitoring System (CHIMS) from 1st August 2021.
CHIMS is a new system requiring importers to submit advance information online and obtain an automatic registration number before importing specified items.
The CHIMS system will be effective for the listed items from 1st August 2021. Bills of Entry submitted on or after this date will be governed by CHIMS.
A registration fee of Rs. 1 per thousand, subject to a minimum of Rs. 100 and a maximum of Rs. 500, is payable on the CIF value of the import consignment.
The automatic registration number obtained through CHIMS is valid for a period of 75 days from the date of issue.
Yes, a facility for online testing of CHIMS without payment of registration fee was available on www.imports.gov.in from 1st May 2021 on a trial basis.
