Request to consider extension of due date of filing return

Request to consider extension of due date of filing return i.e. September 30, 2009 on account of closure of banks on September 30, 2009 and consequent difficulty in remitting taxes

The ICAI has submitted a representation on September 30, 2009 to the Chairman, Central Board of Direct Taxes requesting him to consider extension of due date of filing return i.e. September 30, 3009 on account of closure of banks on September 30, 3009 and consequent difficulty in remitting taxes. It has been explained in the representation that since September 30, 2009 is a half year closing for the banks, the banks are not accepting payment of taxes in cash or through electronic transfer. Hence it has been requested that the due date of filing of the return may be extended by one day so that the concerned assessees would be able to file the return and also pay the taxes on October 1, 2009 and get all the statutory benefits thereon.
