The PIL raises concerns about the July 2021 CA exams due to the adverse effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and seeks several relief measures for students.
The PIL was filed by Adv. Anubha Shrivastava Sahai, President of the India Wide Parents Association, who is a lawyer and child rights activist.
The petition seeks an 'Opt-Out Facility' for students, an extra chance for those under the old syllabus, more examination centres, free transport and accommodation, and mandatory COVID-19 tests for students and staff.
Approximately 987 students across 20 states and 3 Union Territories have approached the Supreme Court.
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has not yet responded to the PIL and is proceeding with the CA Inter and Final Exams from 5th July 2021, and the CA Foundation Exam from 24th July 2021.
As an alternative, the PIL requests that if adherence to COVID-19 safety measures and vaccination is not possible, the ICAI should postpone the exams to a later period, after the COVID-19 crisis normalises and vaccination is completed.
