A grant-in-aid of Rs 4,189.58 crore has been released to rural local bodies in Karnataka, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, and Gujarat.
The total grant released to rural local bodies so far in 2022-23 amounts to Rs 15,705.65 crore.
The grants are intended for improvements in sanitation, maintaining Open Defecation Free (ODF) status, and enhancing the supply of drinking water, including rainwater harvesting and water recycling.
To be eligible, rural local bodies must ensure transparency, conduct regular elections, prepare annual development plans, and make provisional and audited accounts available online. They must also upload development plans for sanitation and drinking water on eGramSwaraj and details of fund utilisation.
States are required to transfer the grants to the local bodies within 10 working days of receiving them from the Union Government. Delays beyond this period will incur interest charges.
