Apropos of ‘Got PAN? You may shell out more for LPG’ (ET, Sept 7), it’s preposterous and a harebrained idea. It shows that our politicians lack common sense. Many people have obtained PAN out of compulsion to comply with certain mandatory requirements to deal with banks and for DPs.
These people are not necessarily taxpayers, and many of them may have income even less than the threshold limits of exemption. To exploit these people and deny them certain other privileges is highly unjust and unfair. So let the wise men in the ministry of finance put on their thinking caps and do some introspection on this issue.
