IT Department Refuses to Accept ITR-V !

03/08/2007 Cuddalore, The Income Tax Office at Cuddalore, Falling under the Commissionerate of Pondicherry refused to accept ITR-V. The ITO of TDS Ward Cuddalore, refused blatantly to accept ITR-V (Generated by the Department's Website). He insisted on filing of the relevant form's Hard copy along with ITR-V. The Income Tax department has with much effort brought out new forms ITR-1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 & 7. Out of the above, ITR - 1, 2, 3 & 4 can be electronically filed into the departments website and an acknowledgement generated by the site has to be submitted with the local Income Tax Office within 15 days from the date of efiling, in case the efile is not digitally signed. When approached, the ITO blatantly refused to accept the form ITR-V and returned the assessee to provide a hard copy of the return form. When informed that the procedure of efiling has been very clear in this regard, he simply rejected saying "What will the department do if the Data base is lost !" Taxman has not gone through its own notifications and circulars issued in this regard. Efiling though is a more convenient method of filing IT returns, It is an inconvenience, schedule shatterer, time consuming and money wasting if the concerned ITO is not aware of the recent developments in the department from where he draws his Salary... They can't expect us Chartered Accountants to teach them what to do !
