ICAI Suspends Two CAs for Professional Misconduct in Separate Disciplinary Cases

In a strong move to uphold professional ethics and integrity, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has ordered the suspension of two of its members- CA Praveen Murarka and CA Subhash Chander Sharma for varying periods following investigations into professional and other misconduct.

A. CA Praveen Murarka Suspended for Nine Months in Two Separate Cases

CA Praveen Murarka (Membership No. 513907), based in Laxmi Nagar, Delhi, has been suspended for a total of nine months, as per ICAI's notification dated April 17, 2025. The suspension follows findings of guilt in two separate disciplinary proceedings, each addressing serious violations under multiple clauses of the Chartered Accountants Act, 1949.

Details of Disciplinary Action

1. Case No. PR/G/47/2022/DD/355/2022/DC/1698/2022

Violated Clauses:

  • Item (2), Part IV, First Schedule
  • Item (7), Part I, and Item (1), Part II, Second Schedule

Punishment:

  • 3-month suspension and a ₹50,000 fine

2. Case No. PR/G/27/2022/DD/83/2022/DC/1730/2023

Violated Clause:

  • Item (7), Part I, Second Schedule

Punishment:

  • 6-month suspension

The ICAI Disciplinary Committee directed that the punishments shall run consecutively, resulting in a consolidated nine-month suspension starting April 17, 2025.

B. CA Subhash Chander Sharma Suspended for One Month

In a separate case, CA Subhash Chander Sharma (Membership No. 083982) has been suspended for one month, effective from April 17, 2025, following disciplinary proceedings under the Chartered Accountants Act, 1949, and relevant rules.

According to ICAI's notification, CA Sharma was found guilty of professional and other misconduct under Item (7) of Part I of the Second Schedule and Item (2) of Part IV of the First Schedule. The Disciplinary Committee took the decision after providing the member an opportunity of being heard under Rule 19(1).
