The ICAI is calling on Chartered Accountants to take the lead in championing financial literacy and ethical awareness across India.

With over 65% of India's population under 35, an educated and financially literate youth is considered a critical asset for the nation's economic transformation and progress.

India's capital markets have seen significant growth, with a surge in retail investor participation. The number of demat accounts increased from 4 crore to 19.2 crore between 2020 and March 2025, and mutual fund assets under management grew by 35% in FY24.

The ICAI is creating ecosystems that promote financial and tax literacy, conducting dedicated programmes, collaborating with governments, and launching e-learning modules on platforms like 'iGOT Karmayogi'.

The ICAI has signed MoUs with the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) to enhance PSU audit capabilities and renewed its MoU with the Standing Conference of Public Enterprises (SCOPE) to improve financial reporting and governance in PSUs.

Recent reports indicate that India's financial literacy rate stands at a modest 27%.
