The Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) has announced that the facility to generate E-Way Bills will be blocked for taxpayers who have not filed their GSTR-3B or CMP-08 returns for two or more consecutive periods. This measure, previously suspended due to the pandemic, will resume from 15th August 2021. Taxpayers are advised to file any outstanding returns immediately to ensure continuous access to the E-Way Bill generation facility.

Your E-Way Bill generation facility will be blocked if you have failed to file your GSTR-3B returns or CMP-08 statements for two or more consecutive tax periods.
The blocking of the E-Way Bill generation facility will resume from 15th August 2021.
To ensure continuous E-Way Bill generation, you should file any pending GSTR-3B returns or CMP-08 statements immediately.
Your facility can be unblocked automatically once you file the pending returns, reducing the default period to less than two tax periods. You can also submit an online request (Form GST EWB 05) to your jurisdictional tax official for unblocking.
You will receive an SMS and an email to your registered mobile number and email address when your E-Way Bill generation facility status changes.
You can view the orders by logging into the GST Portal and navigating to Dashboard > Services > User Services > View Additional Notices/Orders.
