The Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) has implemented important changes to the GST registration amendment process on the GST Portal following Notification No. 05/2026-Central Tax dated October 26, 2026.
The changes arise from the substitution of the provisions relating to amendment of registration under Rule 19 of the Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) Rules, 2017, as notified through the amended GST Rules.
Under the revised mechanism, the process for amending GST registration particulars has been simplified for several categories of changes. While amendments relating to the Principal Place of Business (PPoB) will continue to be examined by the Proper Officer, other amendments will generally be processed through online validation and prescribed OTP verification.

One of the key changes is that the amended Registration Certificate will be made available electronically upon successful completion of the required online validations, wherever applicable, without the usual officer-level examination for these other categories of amendments.
The advisory is particularly important for businesses, tax professionals and GST practitioners who regularly handle amendments to GST registration details.
