According to officials, a battery supplier in Una had filed a false GST return amounting to Rs 5-6 lakh. When the discrepancy was discovered, the inspector allegedly demanded Rs 1.50 lakh for settling the matter. The businessman later negotiated the amount to Rs 1.25 lakh and reported the incident to the Vigilance Bureau.

Acting on the complaint, the Bureau laid a trap and apprehended the GST official from his office in Una while he was accepting Rs 50,000 as part of the settlement.

The arrest highlights the Vigilance Bureau's ongoing efforts to curb corruption in tax administration and ensure transparency in GST operations across Himachal Pradesh.
