Gross GST Revenue Surges 9.1% in September 2025, Touches Rs 1.89 Lakh Crore

India's Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections for September 2025 stood at ₹1.89 lakh crore, marking a robust 9.1% year-on-year growth compared to ₹1.73 lakh crore in September 2024.

Domestic vs Imports

  • Domestic collections grew by 6.8%, reaching ₹1.36 lakh crore.
  • Import revenues saw a sharper rise of 15.6%, at ₹52,492 crore, reflecting stronger trade inflows.

Net GST Revenue

After adjusting refunds, the net GST revenue for September 2025 stood at ₹1.60 lakh crore, up 5% from ₹1.52 lakh crore in the same month last year.

State-Wise Performance

Several states posted double-digit growth:

  • Meghalaya (+27%), Madhya Pradesh (+21%), Sikkim (+22%), and Andaman & Nicobar Islands (+22%) led the pack.
  • Major contributors like Maharashtra (₹27,762 crore, +5%), Karnataka (₹13,495 crore, +7%), and Gujarat (₹10,969 crore, +8%) showed steady increases.
  • A few states witnessed declines, including Telangana (-5%), Delhi (-1%), and Himachal Pradesh (-4%).

Refunds on the Rise

Total refunds surged 40% YoY, from ₹20,453 crore in September 2024 to ₹28,657 crore in September 2025. Export refunds alone accounted for ₹12,406 crore.

Year-to-Date (Apr-Sep 2025) Trend

For the first half of FY 2025-26, gross GST collections reached ₹11.93 lakh crore, registering a 9.8% growth over ₹10.87 lakh crore in the same period last year.
