Finance Ministry Releases Rs 100 and Rs 75 Silver Commemorative Coins Honouring National Icons

The Ministry of Finance has officially announced the release of two special commemorative coins, celebrating two significant events in India's cultural and statistical legacy. These newly minted coins, made of pure silver (99.9%), mark the Birth Centenary of Acharya Shri Vidyanand Ji Maharaj and the 75th Anniversary of the National Sample Survey (NSS).

Both commemorative coins were notified via Gazette of India Notifications G.S.R. 428(E) and G.S.R. 429(E) dated June 27, 2025, under the Coinage Act, 2011.

₹100 Coin Honouring Acharya Shri Vidyanand Ji Maharaj

To commemorate the 100th birth anniversary of Acharya Shri Vidyanand Ji Maharaj, a ₹100 silver coin has been issued. This circular coin has a 44 mm diameter, features 200 serrations, and weighs 40 grams. The coin is composed of 99.9% pure silver with a permissible weight deviation of ±0.005 grams.

Obverse Design:

  • Lion Capital of Ashoka at the centre
  • "सत्यमेव जयते" inscribed below
  • "भारत" in Devanagari and "INDIA" in English on the peripheries
  • ₹ symbol and "100" denomination in international numerals

Reverse Design:

  • Portrait of Acharya Shri Vidyanand Ji Maharaj
  • Years "1925" and "2025" flanking the portrait
  • Devanagari script: "आचार्य श्री विद्यानन्द जी महाराज की जन्म शताब्दी"
  • English: "BIRTH CENTENARY OF ACHARYA SHRI VIDYANAND JI MAHARAJ"

₹75 Coin Celebrating 75 Years of National Sample Survey

Marking a statistical milestone, the ₹75 commemorative coin honours the 75th Anniversary of the National Sample Survey (NSS). The coin shares the same specifications as the ₹100 coin-circular in shape, 44 mm in diameter, 40 grams in weight, 200 serrations, and made of 99.9% silver.

Obverse Design:

  • Lion Capital of Ashoka at the centre
  • "सत्यमेव जयते" below
  • "भारत" in Devanagari and "INDIA" in English
  • ₹ symbol and "75" denomination

Reverse Design:

  • Logo of the 75th NSS at the centre
  • "1950" and "2025" inscribed on the top and bottom respectively
  • Devanagari: "सांख्यिकी एवं कार्यक्रम कार्यान्वयन मंत्रालय" and "राष्ट्रीय सांख्यिकी कार्यालय"
  • English: "NATIONAL STATISTICS OFFICE" and "MINISTRY OF STATISTICS AND PROGRAMME IMPLEMENTATION"
