The custody of a senior Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer, Vijayendra Ramchandra Murthy, and a Chartered Accountant, Dinesh Kumar Agarwal, has been extended.
They were arrested in connection with a bribery case linked to the government's 'faceless' income tax assessment scheme, allegedly offering favourable assessments for bribes.
Their custody has been extended for two more days.
It is a scheme introduced by the Finance Ministry to promote transparency and reduce corruption by eliminating direct contact between taxpayers and tax officials.
The IRS officer was arrested in Delhi, and the Chartered Accountant was apprehended in Bharuch, Gujarat.
The accused will next be produced before the court on 1st May.
