The Central GST department on Tuesday (18th November) recovered cash worth nearly Rs 3 crore during a raid at the well-known Agarwal Dhaba on Cool Road, Jalandhar. The operation, which began around 8 am, uncovered significant irregularities in the establishment's tax records, officials said.
According to sources, the CGST team launched the raid after receiving inputs regarding large-scale tax evasion by the dhaba operator. Under the leadership of Superintendent Kulwant Rai, officers searched the dhaba premises as well as the owner's residence. During the search, officials recovered cash amounting to approximately Rs 3 crore, mostly found at the residence.

Officials involved in the operation confirmed that tax-related documents from the dhaba and related establishments are being examined. "Preliminary investigation indicates multiple irregularities in the records," an officer said. The team has also sealed 1-2 mobile phones believed to contain crucial information linked to the case. These devices will be examined in detail on Wednesday.
Departmental officials stated that the case clearly points to tax evasion practices, though a formal statement will be issued only after the investigation concludes. The raid is still ongoing, and senior officers of the Central GST department are expected to brief the media with comprehensive findings soon.
This development has created a buzz in the region, as Agarwal Dhaba is considered one of Jalandhar's more prominent eateries. The case underscores the department's increasing vigilance against GST violations and unreported income across commercial establishments in Punjab.
