CBI Arrests an Income Tax Inspector in A Bribery case of Rs. 10 Lakh

The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested an Income Tax Inspector, working in the office of Joint Commissioner, Income Tax, Range-III, Lucknow and a private person in a bribery case of Rs. 10 lakh.

A case was registered U/s 7 and 7A of PC Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018) against Income Tax Inspector, working in the office of Joint Commissioner, Income Tax, Range-III, Lucknow on a complaint. It was alleged that the Income Tax Inspector had demanded an illegal gratification of Rs. 25 lakh for releasing FDRs of Rs. 7 crore (approx.) of a Kolkata based private company which was seized by Income Tax department during the inquiry/investigation of another connected firm. Later, the accused agreed to accept Rs. 10 lakh as the first instalment. CBI laid a trap and caught the Income Tax Inspector and a private person of Lucknow while accepting Rs. 10 lakh from the complainant. Searches were conducted at the residential premises of Income Tax Inspector which led to recovery of Rs. 10.50 lakh (approx.) as well as documents relating to several Bank accounts and investments along with other incriminating documents.

Both the arrested accused are being produced today before the Competent Court at Lucknow.
