Wrong PAN in self assessment tax payment

Tax queries 1444 views 2 replies

An assessee has while paying the self assessment tax for the post three years has made a mistake of giving a wrong PAN number (just one digit in the PAN number) mentioning 8 instead of 3.

These payments have been done through State Bank of India

What is the remedy available? Should making a communication to the concerned Income tax office with the copies of the self assessment tax payment receipts suffice.

the assessee has to file revised income tax return for all those three years otherwise he will not get credit of those tax paid. Alongwith the revised return he has to send a letter to the dept explaining the mistake with copy of the three challans enclosed.

The assessee has to submit a letter to Assessing Officer regarding this along with copy of challan and PAN no.
