I am confused about the download section on Incometax filling portal.
I see there's a Microsoft excel utility available for download for ITR1. I suppose 2 years ago excel was discontinued and they provided a separate EXE file to be installed offline on Windows system. I used that earlier.
Is such an EXE utility awaited or Excel is the way to go from this year?
The Excel utility is still awaited.

I am still confused. Excel utility has been available for quite some time for AY23-24, but there's no Windows EXE (executable file that used to get installed as an app on Windows) offline download yet available.

The offline excel utility to file ITR 1 to 4 have been released now.
The JAVA based common utility which was common earlier may not be available this year.
Online version of filing ITR 1,2 & 4 are released now, while that for ITR 3 is awaited.
You can file ITR 1 online, which is error free now.
Actually initially I liked Excel in past but in 2020 or 21 or so when they introduced Windows application, I found it much better and foolproof that Excel utility.

The common Java utility to file ITR 1 to 4 has been released today.
Yes, thank you for the info. It took almost two and half months since March end for the IT dept to release this utility.
I hope it's bug free!
Yes, ITR 1 is working fine, but AIS is still under constant upgradation.. So, wait for its finalization.
