An Old Story:

The Ant works hard in the withering heat all summer building its house and laying up supplies for the winter.
The Grasshopper thinks the Ant is a fool and laughs & dances & plays the summer away.
Come winter, the Ant is warm and well fed. The Grasshopper has no food or shelter so he dies out in the cold.

Indian Version:

The Ant works hard in the withering heat all summer building its house and laying up supplies for the winter.
The Grasshopper thinks the Ant's a fool and laughs & dances & plays the summer away.
Come winter, the shivering Grasshopper calls a press conference and demands to know why the Ant should be allowed to be warm and well fed while others are cold and starving.

NDTV, BBC, CNN show up to provide pictures of the shivering Grasshopper next to a video of the Ant in his comfortable home with a table filled with food.

The World is stunned by the sharp contrast. How can this be that this poor Grasshopper is allowed to suffer so?

Arundhati Roy stages a demonstration in front of the Ant's house.

Medha Patkar goes on a fast along with other Grasshoppers demanding that Grasshoppers be relocated to warmer climates during winter .

Mayawati states this as `injustice' done on Minorities.

Amnesty International and Koffi Annan criticize the Indian Government for not upholding the fundamental rights of the Grasshopper.

The Internet is flooded with online petitions seeking support to the Grasshopper (many promising Heaven and Everlasting Peace for prompt support as against the wrath of God for non-compliance) .

Opposition MPs stage a walkout. Left parties call for 'Bengal Bandh' in West Bengal and Kerala demanding a Judicial Enquiry.

CPM in Kerala immediately passes a law preventing Ants from working hard in the heat so as to bring about equality of poverty among Ants and Grasshoppers.

Railway Minister allocates one free coach to Grasshoppers on all Indian Railway Trains, aptly named as the 'Grasshopper Rath'.

Finally, the Judicial Committee drafts the ' Prevention of Terrorism Against Grasshoppers Act' [POTAGA], with effect from the beginning of the winter.

Arjun Singh makes 'Special Reservation ' for Grasshoppers in Educational Institutions & in Government Services.

The Ant is fined for failing to comply with POTAGA and having nothing left to pay his retroactive taxes,it's home is confiscated by the Government and handed over to the Grasshopper in a ceremony covered by NDTV.

Arundhati Roy calls it ' A Triumph of Justice'.

Railway Minister calls it 'Socialistic Justice '.

CPM calls it the ' Revolutionary Resurgence of the Downtrodden '

Koffi Annan invites the Grasshopper to address the UN General Assembly.

Many years later...

The Ant has since migrated to the US  set up a multi-billion dollar company in Silicon Valley,

100s of Grasshoppers still die of starvation despite reservation somewhere in India,

..AND

As a result of loosing lot of hard working Ants and feeding the grasshoppers,

Great  Write up !!

Thanks for an Ideal Indian version of the story.

.

Let's wish ...

May the Grasshoppers soon start learning from own mistakes.

.

Mera Bharat Usi Din Mahan Hoga -

                       Jab

Desh Ka Har Nagrik Samaan Hoga.

.

Nice moral story said by u..

It teaches us how to be in life by learning with our own mistakes...

Thanks for sharing..

what a creativity in writing... really great, but made me sad,, this is how our leaders work:-(, why??, how come they didnt see the hardwork of ants... yes... ants are too busy in working, they wont be having time to support and vote for such ministers... obviously grasshoppers.. are more fit for that job....and fact is... these leaders are nothing but grasshoppers... If the leaders wish... they could bring a better ending... they could have insisted grasshoppers to work more.., and rewarded ants... then all will be happy.. no more sufferings for grasshoppers during winter...., Manoj... Thanks a lot for sharing..., its we citizens to open our eyes and choose the better leader... or else, we may face the same situation as ants...

Thanks all...

Paras sir - nothing in our hands sir.. al we can do is.. hope for the best.. !

KK - exactly dude..

Harini - nicely pointed out by you..  a day will come when ants will b taking command over grasshopper.. and then only everything could change....

It raises one important  question what action should be taken by ANT (AUNTY?) as her fight is against  Arundhati Roy,Medha Patkar, Mayawaati etc.

.

She requires to change her Strategic Planning .

( She is required to study the subject like Strategic Management  by joining CA or without joining CA : both options are available ) and apply it :

.

There is not a single problem of which no solution is there .

.

When you "show" the mass that you are rich; so many will come and ask for a beg.

.

Now there are plenty of ways not to "show" such wealth to so-called "blood hounds."

.

One should apply "analytical approach" to cope up with the situation.

.

In Financial Management we learn what to do when one has surplus funds :

.

1. It must be invested to fetch interest.

.

2. Take loans against the "stock" which she has and expand another  business

( This is one of the most reasonable solution to the present problem before her).

.

3. Export the surplus "stock" as soon as it happens and import when artificial shortage is created in the country

( It is like Strategic Planning of Sharad Pawar ).

.

.

The effect of above actions may "cost" her some money; but it will open new horizons in several manner like:

.

1. Safeguard of own funds

2. Expansion of Business

3. Providing employment to grasshopper before he makes a complaint.

( The most effective strategic decision to show "social welfare").

.

More solutions will come......let the discussion continue....

well said .......hamara desh iska shikar hai isliye hum piche reh gaye hai..............\

@ Surendra Sir,

The planning given by you on this open platform may raise the eyebrows sadof Aunts as majors suggested by you  are purely meant for the benefit of industrious Ants only.

.

In democracy,  no planning can be said as strategically perfect unless it is told for the upliftment of the grasshooper (maintaining secrecy over the issue of real benificiaries).

.

Being a keen learner , you may illustratively learn  the Strategic Approach of Maya Aunty etc... .

.

Now my views .........

As the Ant of this topic has evidently made herself a prosperous and happy guy, strategically we should  raise questions focussing  more at grass root level only.

.

Ant knows better that Grasshooper will never enjoy his life until he remains in a shell more particularly labeled as  "Down Trodden" in spite of the fact that he has been given the opportunity and protection to enjoy the high hill house of the Ant.

.

The dilemma of the poor Grasshooper :

"Just due to minor Govt. grants being given to him in the name of minority upliftment, he has to remain .....always.... as a downtrodden

Such Grant will always remind him the Ant  as such he never can be at (his so called)  home"
.

The day, when the Grasshooper himself will remove the label of "Down Trodden"  he will certainly enjoy a better life........ even better than the migrant Ant.

.

The basic question was relating to safeguarding of interest of ANT and accordingly I have suggested the ways.

.

Grasshoppers don't  "accept" anything except to "enjoy" readily available food hence neither they want "upliftment" nor there is any "requirement."

In India; there are crores of such people who believe in KHAO,PIO, MAUJ KARO.  (Although everyone wants this but many have goals to achieve something great in life).

.

By Education only; upliftment is possible.

.

Here one should not confuse education means a degree. Real  education means when a person is fit to do his "desired" work to earn money "smartly."  I prefer an uneducated businessman than an unemployed educated person. At least a businessman is in a position to provide employment to such person.

.

Grasshoppers are not "enterpreneurs" hence they can be best fitted into "job" only and this is the reason I have suggested employment for them.

.

They (minorities) prefer "secured" job at government offices and everyone knows they dislike to do  work. They are only interested in their salaries, perks, leaves (including PL i.e. Privileged Leave !!), medical facilities, reimbursement of expenses and above all PENSION for rest of the life.

.

Why farmers are ready to sell their owned land since years ? Because "good money" which they never imagined is offerred to them by the industrialists. Who is in fault ? Farmers ! They want to "enjoy" their life without doing anything for rest of the life !

.

Opposition is only when they feel that price paid to them is very low  ( which they realized later on and not at the time when the lands were sold by them).

OPssss !!!!

really its grt story ..

Keep it up sir, Thank u ...

Really Great  , well written !!!  Keep sharing yes

The usefulness of the Forum section comes to the fore only when lively discussions - as initiated by Paras Sir and Surendra Sir - are being generated.

I too would like to share my views on the topic. But before that I must strive to get rid of my confusion(s).

I know about the identities of the metaphorical Ant and Grasshopper - the ones described in the OLD story.

This Ant is - industrious, farsighted, disciplined...

This Grasshopper is - lazy, myopic-in-vision, a kind of Charvaka philosopher who lives by the day caring a darn for future ...

BUT, I am at a loss to identify the PRESENT Ant and Grasshopper - in their PRESENT Avatar.

Who are these Ants? Industrialists? Materially succesful people ? Career conscious youth of India? ...

Who are these Grasshoppers? The "crores of such people who believe in KHAO,PIO, MAUJ KARO.", as described by Surendra Sir or the "Downtrodden" of Paras Sir or the general poor of this country like the farmers from Andhra Pradesh. Do they have any other identity as well,- like those covered by the Protective Discrimination policy?

Please tolerate my ignorance, but I don't understand this statement by the initiator of this post either :

" a day will come when ants will b taking command over grasshopper.. and then only everything could change...."

Metaphors, as can be easily seen, have always been my Achilles' Heel.

well written...this is real indian story...
