Hi,

Personally I feel that Self study is a very good option for every student because without self study it is very difficult to clear any examination. The main reason behind this thinking is coaching also involves a remarkable amount of self study. One of the reasons to go for self study is the confidence factor involved in it. Successful self study may give you an incredible amount of confidence to deal with any kind of subject or course.

As per my opinion coaching is not necessary for CA or CS final. But another truth is if you taking coaching then you can save lots of energy and time.  If you are looking for one stop shop for CS final coaching, then it is a bit difficult here in Delhi NCR. No clue about other parts of the country.

So it is advisable to go for self study in CA finals. But there are certain pre-conditions for self study:

1. Proper guidance is very much important.

2. Choose correct reference books well in advance.

3. Have regular discussions with your friends.

4. Self study may be a failure if you prepare without interaction with anybody else.

5. There are certain topics in CS and CA Final for which special preparation is required and self study may be harmful from the conceptual clarity point of view. So discuss these topics with your friends or with any experienced student.

6. Let me tell you a very important thing coaching also involves self study where as self study does not involve coaching. Reason being in coaching classes also concepts are discussed once or twice. But you have to understand those concepts by self study only.

Wish you all the Best

How much time to allocate:

There is no fix rule for the same. In the first round choose and work on certain most important topics which involve conceptual clarity. When you clear first round it will give you a gr8 amount of confidence. Here you are advised to use institute study mat with good reference books.

In the second round based your study on the Scanner questions. Finish your scanner as early as possible. Also refer previous exam suggested answer for presentation purpose.

One more advice --- first focus on the subject which is not amongst your favorite subjects.

Revision before exams:

There is no substitute of revision. You have to do something extra-ordinary to ensure good revision. Try and develop quick reading approach. Revise a topic prepared on Monday till Saturday i.e. within next 4-5 days. Just give it a reading. That’s it.

Use my ATLAS Method for revision.

ATLAS STUDY METHOD FOR REVISION:

This method is completely developed and named by me and is extremely helpful for fetching good marks through good revision. ATLAS STANDS FOR “AT LAST”. There are always some questions, formulas, Sections and case laws which we simply fail to recall in exam hall. According to this method if you find anything very difficult to remember then after preparing the same topic once or twice put it in the ATLAS. Keep putting difficult topics in ATLAS till exam date. There would be a different ATLAS for law, audit, accounts etc. Now 1.5 hour before leaving your home for examination hall open ATLAS question list and revise it properly or give it a special reading. Now if you find any question from ATLAS in the exam paper it would be very easy for you to answer as you specially revise it just 2-3 hours back and your confidence level will automatically increase in the beginning of exam. What say???

Keep review your ATLAS list and modify it accordingly. If initially you put any question in ATLAS and now you are confident enough about that particular question you can remove that question from ATLAS. Don’t put easy and non important questions in ATLAS as this concept is for revising extra-ordinary important questions just 2-3 hours before examination. If you need any help understanding this method please let me know.

All the best

Ankur Sir you rightly said that Self Study is surely very helpful be it any exam, i have seen a difference in my friends circle only...people who are relying on coachings only are average performers and my friends who are collecting material from different sources and continuing their self study are among the best performers as far as their exams are concerned. I feel coaching definetely helps however completely relying on it is a biggest mistake one can make. So i definetely recomend self study over everything.
