Hi, Some sites require you to furnish the cvv number of debit cards for even a small online transaction involving money. But I heard tha this information is risk to give. But not furnishing does not complete your transaction. I want to know the risk involved in giving this number on online site and also how could i protect this no. Some newspaper quote that this should be masked by giving asteriks . But there is no provision of spaces in those sites.
Would any body clarify on this?

If you have not installed latest virus protection for online transaction, there is likelyhood of any information catching/hacking program passing all the information so typed.
The same data can be used by the hacker to siphon off your balance.
There are various protection methods, but best is virtual cards.
Would you elaborate on virtual cards. Normally when on online , sites do ask your pin, and not cvv. I am having avast antivirus latest. But my question is why some sites insist on cvv number to process the transaction. It does not ask pin. what is virtual cards?

CVV is final authetication for transfer of the requested amount from your credit/debit card.
No question of pin of the site.

Hi, Thank for information. But i do not remember the site. When i enter the bank details, and clicked next, it asked for the 4digit pin. Then the transaction was proceeded . I think different sites use different screens for processing. So, it is risk to give both and it is better to avoid online transaction altogether. To day i read in times of india, about how it is risk when so much methods, like phising, vishing , data chip in the machine slot would prove to be risky nowadays. Thanks for so much information. I do not use netbanking , so , i will be careful in future transactions. Even for cine ticket, all the details are asked to proceed. Some sites accept,some type of cards. strange are the ways of transactions. Thank you so much
