I'm an enterpreneur based in Chennai. I've recently imported some chocolate chip cookies to test out the potential of the product in chennai and other south indian cities.Ive completed all customs formalities. My question is when i sell these cookies to retailers do i have to add a VAT OF 14.5% and when the retailers sell to the final customer do they have to add an additional 14.5%? Would request anybody who has knoWledge on VAT to confirm if this is to be done. Please let me know asap.

yes you have to add VAT while selling cookies to the retailers. And retailer will also add VAT while selling them to the cusotmer.

But VAT charged by you will not be added in the cost but retailers will take input credit of the VAT paid to you.
