What is meaning of dearness allowance in terms of employment??

Payments given by employer to the employees to compensate him for increase in prices is called dearness allowance. It is linked to costs inflation index & it is paid on certain % of basic pay & it is raised on quarterly basis & it is taxable. (Mahangai bhatta)
