Timelimit for assessement after notice under 143(2)

1. If An assessee has been served a notice under 143(2). Under which sections can ITO start assessment proceedings?

2. How much time can ITO take to complete the assessment?

1) Ito will make the scrutiny assessment u/s 143(3). 2) time limit for such assessment is 21 months from the end of relevant assessment year.but such time limit can be increased . 3) but make sure that the notice received u/s 143(2) is received within 6 months from the end of financial year in which the return is filed .(otherwise such notice is void)

Is it true that IT dept give 9 months to file new ITR after serving notice under 143(2).

The assessee has been served a plain vanilla 143(2) without any other detail and was told scrutiny is under process, but there has been no other communication after 143(2) which was served in aug, 2011.

No....now you cannot file return as assessment is going on.. What you can do is to wait for the assessment to be completed.there are high chances that income will be considered higher than what has been stated by you.

I received Notice U/S 143(2) in Sep.2012 for scrutany of Assessment year 2011-12 what is the time limit for complate the assessment U/S 143 (3)
