Test of 3 and Vidhyashankar...

Hi All,

I said in one of my comments a while ago, I get the member's SIRC newsletter. Now in page 5  or so I think,I came across a beautiful story about Socretes and this article has been penned quoting this story as the premable to the article titled"Public opinion".Since the newsletter comes to members only maybe students might not have access to it(in any case it is priced at Rs.5 I guess.I dont remember it exactly now that here in Gulf I dont possess the copy but do remember the story)

Why Iam saying this here I will tell all in the end first read the story

I would cut-paste-copy the story from some site I get in google to save time instead of narrating it in my own fashion.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Socretes being given Helmlock poison for his liberal thinking and views by the government.Even the executioner is in shame while doling out the final punishment to Socretes!!(Hey! Vidhyashankar needs a glass of  an energy drink not helmlock! hehe! justkidding!!!!)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In ancient Greece (469 - 399 BC ), Socrates was widely lauded for his wisdom. One day the great philosopher came upon an acquaintance who ran up to him excitedly and said, "Socrates, do you know what I just heard about one of your students?"

"Wait a moment," Socrates replied. "Before you tell me I'd like you to pass a little test. It's called the Test of Three."

"Test of Three?"

"That's right," Socrates continued. "Before you talk to me about my student let's take a moment to test what you're going to say. The first test is Truth. Have you made absolutely sure that what you are about to tell me is true?"

No," the man said, "actually I just heard about It."

"All right," said Socrates. "So you don't really know if it's true or not. Now let's try the second test, the test of Goodness. Is what you are about to tell me about my student something good?"

"No, on the contrary..."

"So," Socrates continued, "you want to tell me something bad about him even though you're not certain it's true?"

The man shrugged, a little embarrassed.

Socrates continued. "You may still pass though, because there is a third test - the filter of Usefulness. Is what you want to tell me about my student going to be useful to me?"

"No, not really."

"Well," concluded Socrates, "if what you want to tell me is neither True nor Good nor even Useful, why tell it to me at all?"

The man was defeated and ashamed. This is the reason Socrates was a great philosopher and held in such high esteem.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This message is intended for those who come to me in my PMs and forums with personal questions like "Are you a fake?"..."What do you want?"..."You dont have those degrees"..."Your photo is a fake"..."You want mere publicity",etc

My actions in the form of my typing words would speak better who Iam.Even when I tell the truth people would not believe me, even when I help people would suspect me, this is the foolish nature of humans.

So first question is ask yourselves before wasting my time: Do you know the truth about me?----Im sure you dont know exactly.

Then ask---Is it something good for me or students to hear?----Im sure calmounous comments against anyone is quite distasteful

Then finally ask---Is it going to be useful to me or students?----Im sure it will not be.The students will not get inspired and I would go my own way, spending even this small time in relaxation and other pursuits.Even otherwise,I would not come much after a few days and this is a promise to you all.So, try to use me while Im here for whatever little Im worth do not kill "Vidhyashankar" with a helmlock of criticism before his time(Arre Yaar dhoodh peetha baccha yaar yeh "Vidhyashankar" chodo usse!!).After I go you, are free to bash me and then I would not be able to reply to your comments on me for I have talked enough and ignited a few minds for the good.

Apply this test for every thing in your life.

Hope this helps everyone.I dont want to point any names here as everyone are students (or dynamic members) and they have a brilliant career before them.

My best wishes to one and all.

Thankyou Shaileshji

It doesn't matter to us whether u virtually exist or physically. The only thing is that we have got some thing to learn from u and ur view points. Even no one knows the existence of god even though we interpret and digest that he guides us to right way. Like wise we all have really learned something and precious from u. And we would always seek ur presence in your forum.

Some one has said: "“Flatter me, and I may not believe you. Criticize me, and I may not like you. Ignore me, and I may not forgive you. Encourage me, and I will not forget you. Love me and I may be forced to love you.

So, let them criticise.. we all r wid u...

Thankyou for the kind comments.

May I also add jocularly: Comment me,and I will aptly reply back to you! (with an add-on of my time-constraints).I comment thus to some negative comments

1. Not because I have some "Bravado" as one smart alec said.(Bravado is defined among many meanings in two kinds thus in Merriam Webster:

  1. Defiant or swaggering behavior
  2. A pretense of courage; a false show of bravery

I do not have the necessity for the second as it won't last long.Anything false, is bound to retort back. Why even my own case, there is a Karma with these postings.Obviously, "Vidhyashankar" is something "Fake" technically speaking because my name is different, so what happened, a backlash happened from some pockets. This is called Tao. Tao of return and Tao of Karma. What goes out will come back. However, the greater Tao is maintained by me carefully and thus I do not intend to reveal "Vidhyashankar" to the world.

"When the sun shines dogs bark, however the sun is not affected, it shines benevolently on the dog too. This is the mark of a wise sage".This was the commentary I read in a wonderfully simple yet deeply perceptive Chinese philosophical book called "Tao Te Ching" when I was being abused by my first auditor. I decided to be the sun and he the dog. No one can insult anyone without permission. If you feel hurt by someone's insult it means that you have allowed his thoughts to penetrate. It is like your neighbour comes and says, "Here take my filth and faeces" and you go ahead and accept it like a coward. Will you do that in real life? You would show what is defined as the first definition of "Bravado" stated above!

Criticisms without purpose is such a "sh*t",I would definitely show my defiance but see to it that even defiance is constructive.

Every opportunity, whether a praise or a criticism is transmuted by me for my own good first and then the good of all.

"For criticism I have my set of defences but Im defenceless against praise"--So saith Dr.Sigmund Frued. However, even for a praise, I have a defence.

The best rule of thumb to keep oneself sane is to look at a hole in yourself when someone praises you and look for a ray of hope in you when someone criticizes you. This is most essential to learn in this world these days.

God Bless...

Whatever be your misgivings about me, I like this attitude of yours.Good.

well .....i too wud like to irk u a lot...else we wudn get the pearls of wisdom enshrouded in ur replies.....so kudos...not to u...but to ur antagonists...!!

Hahaha! Nice comment.(Hey I like the baby in your profile photo hehe!)

Whether you irk an oyester or not, it still contains the pearl. If you wait for the oyester to open the mouth on its own accord in the night, then you can grab the pearl easily(In other words, if someone asks me something constructively,I wouldbe happier to respond with even better replies) you can also break the oyester and take the pearl too, but that is a difficult task and ruining the mother-of-pearl-oyester!

i bow down 2 ur knowldge sir

Best career prospects.Hmm, it all depends on the student.I wouldn't personally stop anyone even from taking a course in scuplting.Everyone lives his own life, in his own way.

But yeah, if you want financial or related degrees perse, there are a host of such degrees

CISA,MBA,CS,CWA,CFA,CIMA,CMA,ACCA,PhD(In recognized universities),CFE(Certified fraud examiner),CIA,ISA/DISA,SAP,ORACLE,JDEDWARDS-Certification courses,CISM,CSM,CFP,CPA,CA(Foregin institutes),etc

You have to decide where the aptitude lies and where your 'heart desire' takes you and then choose a course judiciously.Unless, one is a knowledge freak(read it as a nut combined) like me, there is no point in adding qualifications just because some Tom Dick and Harry is doing it or why even your brother is doing it.My younger brother, who is into Engineering, and who gives me the dubious distinction of a "nerd" has done just his Btech and MS in USA and is gainfully employed and he says he has great time with his girlfriends!! and boo-boos me with his thumb on his nose. But that is his perspective and his way of looking at things, Im not a nerd, I know that, I have fun-time too but I also manage to planup and study and get my degrees.Maybe it is sibling jealousy which makes him say so, which I have chided him a bit.(I chide you guys and gals here, wont I act the "Big brother" to him?).Infact,, it was because of my push and pull he went to USA after his Btech, else he would have been jolly in Chennai bugging my poor father and roaming around with his girlfriends and other loafer-friends!

If you are comfortable with what you are doing and maybe an additional degree then maybe you too can like my brother, place your thumb on your nose and boo-boo others or life in general or like Einstien show a toungue to humanity.

But I would consider myself a student(life-long one) and take everyday as an opportunity for something new and substantial to learn, emulate and experiment.

And films? Huh! I manage to watch quite a few of them.I have been like a sanyaasi till now, now Im looking for girls myself(infact my whole familyincluding my brother are searching for the right girl to "nail me down"(hey no pun/double meaning inunedo intended!).So, this time, Im gonna watch Johnny Depp's latest flicks with my wife.Hope it works.

I might also watch a few Tamil,Hindi movies too.Im crazy about Thalaivar(Rajinikanth...who is no thinking actor but just watching his antics makes me laugh....He also has a curious style and a very good attitude to life.I know this sounds like something of a sacrliege to speak about Rajni being an intellecutual or a wannabe intellectual!! But then I like to loosen up a bit!).Kamal is an actor who tries too hard and in effect gets on my nerves with some artificialisms but he is the guy with some substance in films these days and no one can beat him when it comes to silent emoting. On the Hindi scene, Amitabh, the popular actor appeals me.Amirkhan is really one class actor.I recently watched one movie "Jab we met" and was surprised at the congruity to my life as I had helped one beautiful girl from an absolute jerk of a boyfriend thus and she had loved me or rather was falling in love with me, when I decided to distance myself from her....Well gotta tun with my popcorn,I have to watch a film now....!
