Applicable TDS rate u/s. 194C on contractual payments made to a proprietory firm is 1%

It is 1% for proprietary firm irrespective that it is liable for tax audit or not.

TDS would be deducted u/s 194C @ 1% for any payment under this head to persons other than company........

THE rate of deduction of TDS for payment made to proprietorship firm is @ 1%

Dear,
w.e.f. 01.10.2009 rates of TDS have been amended and as per the new provisions:
If the payments have been made to contractors/sub-contractors being
> a Proprietory firm (i.e. Individual) / HUF : Rate of TDS - 1%
> if the payee is others : ROT - 2%
