Please suggest me whether TDS will be deducted or not on break-up journey by the transporter, if the pay exceeds Rs. 70000/-.

Where a single payment to Contactor or Sub-contractor exceeds Rs.30000/- or the aggregate of the amounts paid/credited or likely to be paid/credited exceeds Rs.75,000 during the financial year, TDS has to be deducted u/s 194C @ 1%(if deductee is individual or HUF) or @ 2% (if deductee is other than individual or HUF)

NO TDS ON TRASPORTER IF HE PROVIDE HIS PAN NO. BUT TRANSPORTER MUST BE A GOODS TRANSPORT OPERATOR

Dear Sharad,

If the recepient is a transport operator (i.e. in the business of plying, hiring or leasing goods carriages) and he provides his PAN to you, then no TDS will be deducted (w.e.f. Oct. 1, 2009).

If PAN is not furnished, then tax will be deductible @ 20%  (from april 1, 2010 on wards).
