Is it compulsory to show transporters name and PAN no. in TDS return if amount of freight is less than Rs. 35000/75000 i.e. within threshold limit of TDS ?

I think No, but my colleague is saying Yes ?

I was just going to post the same question in the Forum.

It is not to be shown if the payments do not exceed threshold limit.

And by the way, can you please tell me whether PAN of the transporter is to be displayed compulsorily in the Consignment note or the final invoice?? If it is not shown, then do we need to deduct TDS on that ground??

As per the provisions of income tax act, even the payments made below the threshold limit are to show in the tds returns by stating them under 0% tax.... but  most of the companies do not do that.

even in case salaries also most of the companies file nil TDS return with out giving the details of employees...where are the salaries are with in the thresh hold limit.  But we have to provide the detials of employees PAN, salaries if its less than thresh hold limit then under 0% tax rate.

I find ur contention is right Niraj.

As primafacie Transporters are covered under sec. 194C. And threshold limit under this section also applies to transport operator therefore threr is no need to report anything about those transport operator who are below the threshold limit.
