I recently saw Taxmans TDS chart rate fir Year 09-10.. It was divided into two periods with different rates. why is it so??? So for may exam do we have to learn both the rates??

TDS rates has been changes wef 1st Oct’09.
Hence, there are two charts –one for Apr to Sept’09 & other for Oct to Mar’09.
Also find simplified file for reference of TDS rates.

So for May 2010 exam point of view , we have to solve questions buy using the new chart with rates for two period???
there will be no surcharge and education cess while deducting tds except tds on salary
Yes there will be no surcharge and education cess while deducting tds except tds on salary. So the rate chart as attached seems to be wrong to that extent. And also the rate the TDS on interest paid to companies is 10% and not 20.
