Hello,

I want to deposit TDS related to May 2009. Can i deposit the amount using challan 281 .?

Yes. Because the new TDS provisions are applicable for payments relatinf to June and thereafter.

In respect of challan no. 281, it doesn't matter for which month you are depositing TDS. You will be required to deposit the same using same challan.

For the month of June 09, TDS deposit due date is on or before 7th July 09, As per circular issued by CBDT, from 1st July 09, new form 17 will be notified and hence you are suppose to deposit tds through this new form only. We will have to wait for the same.
