if you sell your equity mutual funds after a year, you must pay a long-term capital gains tax of 10 per cent on returns of over Rs 1 lakh in a financial year. If you sell your equity mutual funds before a year, the gains are treated as short-term capital gains and taxed at 15 per cent.
