my case is old one.i paid Rs 10000 as self assesment tax for 2008-09 but due to writing mistake of one alphabet in PAN number ,it was not credited.now while log in it dept website it is showing 12970 as arrear of tax. tax was deposited in state bank branch. photo copy of challan with bank stamp is with me. my name was also correct.pl guide what to do. does income tax dept tally name and PAN number both in challans.

You hv to contact the concerned person after visiting Ao. but ,generally if it is paid by cheque the concerned software will not validate the cheque Since bank account is linked with pan and error message will display on the screen, the moment it will be displayed you are requested to check .
