TAN Application - Confusion in Choosing Right AO Code

I have been trying to find correct AO Code for individual who is living in Bangalore, with annual TDS/TCS > 10 Lakh and name from R to Z.

When I select other cities like Mumbai in TAN application, it is much easier to find AO code, however for Bangalore, I do not really see any option that fits my criteria. For half of wards, the remark section is empty. For section where remarks are present, it does not fit the criteria. Is this expected?

How does one manage through such scenario?

Quick Summary
This discussion addresses the common confusion faced by individuals in Bangalore when trying to find the correct AO Code for their TAN application, particularly when their annual TDS/TCS exceeds 10 Lakhs and their name falls within the R to Z range. Unlike other cities, Bangalore's NSDL portal presents challenges with incomplete or unsuitable AO Code options. Solutions offered include checking the CBDT website, using the 'Know Your AO' feature, and in some cases, using an AO code from an adjacent city if a direct match isn't available, though it's advised to use the AO range for your residential city for proprietors and individuals. If an incorrect code was used, a TAN correction request can be filed.

Check the CBDT website and use the Income tax department website and search for A.O.code using the option "Know Your AO" feauture

TDS WARD 2(2), BANGALORE ALL PERSONS WHO ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR MAKING ANNUAL TDS AND OR TAX COLLECTED AT SOURCE IS LESS THAN RS 10 LAKHS UNDER IT-ACT 1961 AND WHOSE NAMES START WITH ENGLISH ALPHABETS 'R' TO 'Z' WITHIN AREA OF URBAN & RURAL DISTRICTS OF BANGALORE COMING UNDER COMMISSIONER OF IT BANGALORE I / II (EXCLUDING DISTRICT OF TUMKUR) / III / IV (EXCLUDING DISTRICT OF KOLAR) / V / CENTRAL DIRECT OF IT (TRANSFER PRICING) AND DIRECTOR OF IT (EXEMPTION) KAR WT 182 2

This suits best....

Dear, The thinker & Sri Rama Chary Rachakondaji , there isn't available A.O. Code of all the cities. I can tell you sir I am choosing my adjacent citi's A.O.code while applying for Tan No.& it's quite easily generated without any problem.

The AO code for TAN depends on your business address and entity type. On the NSDL Form 49B portal, you pick Area Code, Range Code, and AO Number from dropdowns for your state and city. For proprietors and individuals, use the AO range for your residential city, not the company or corporate AO range. If you have already submitted with the wrong code, you can file a TAN correction request (Form 49B with changes). For complete TDS and TAN setup for your business, Tax Garden handles this end to end under [TDS compliance services](https://taxgarden.in/services).
