When you are making a payment in cheque or electronic transfer (NEFT/RTGS), then you prepare a payment voucher.

Salary paid in cheque comes in payment voucher. Cheque given to creditor comes in payment voucher.

If it is in cash, then prepare a cash voucher.

If there are no cash or bank in the transaction, then prepapre journal voucher.

Creating provision such as salary at the end of the month does not include any actual payment by cash or cheque. This is a journal voucher.

Depreciation, passing income tax provision, provision for bad doubtful debts, provision for contigencies, all these are non-cash/bank transaction and a journal voucher is prepared.

Payment Voucher simply means payment of all types of expenses e.g. Telephone bill, Electricity bill, Salary expenses, etc.

Any payment either through Cash / Bank should be entered in Payment Vocuher.

Journal Vocuher in the simplest manner means any entry which is not receipt / payment / sales / purchase would be entered through Journal Voucher.

For example, Provision for Expenses, Depreciation on Assets, Transfer entry from One Ledger to another, etc..

I have doubt on tally erp version my doubt is can I change or update the price list of item directly from the sales voucher or purchase voucher. Sometimes when I am doing purchase entry then I need to change the rates of price so I need go to the back and changes the price of item from price list
