StIpend to Medical interns

My daughter is currently doing compulsory internship after completing MBBS. She is getting 7000 per month as stipend. Please let me know whether it is exempted and if not under what head should I show income. She is incurring expenses for residence and food and conveyance since she is away in hostel. Can we claim deduction for such expenses

If she has not other income, then it won't effect whether it is taxable or exempt. Income of women individual is exempt to the tune of Rs.190000/- per annum. which break down to atleast 15500/- p m.

Moreover any such stipend received during compulsory intership is exempt u/s 10(16) of the Income tax Act, 1961 read as :

" Sec.10 (16) scholarships granted to meet the cost of education ; "
