How to Find Your GST Jurisdiction
1. Finding Central GST Jurisdiction
The Central Government provides an official tool to locate your Central GST (CGST) jurisdiction based on your area:
-
Visit the Official Portal: Go to the CBIC "Know Your Jurisdiction" page.
-
Select State/UT: Choose your state (e.g., Uttar Pradesh).
-
Navigate Hierarchy: Select your Zone, then the corresponding Commissionerate, Division, and finally your Range. You can usually match your specific locality or PIN code to the descripttions provided under each Range.
2. Finding State GST Jurisdiction
State jurisdictions are administered by the respective State Commercial Tax departments.
-
Visit the State Website: Navigate to the official website of the Uttar Pradesh Commercial Tax Department.
-
Search for "Jurisdiction" or "Locality Search": Most state tax portals have a "Know Your Jurisdiction" or "Search Ward/Circle" feature.
-
Use Your Address: You will typically need to input your city, district, and locality (or PIN code) to find the specific Ward or Circle assigned to your address.
Important Notes
-
GST State Code: For any address in Uttar Pradesh, the first two digits of your GSTIN will be 09.
-
Verification: If you already have a GST registration for the address, the most accurate way to verify your jurisdiction is by checking your GST Registration Certificate (Form REG-06), which explicitly lists both your Central and State jurisdictional officers.
-
Online Search: If you are looking for a specific PIN code like 201005 (Ghaziabad), you can often find unofficial guides that list specific ranges, but for legal compliance, always verify these against the official CBIC portal or your state's official tax portal to ensure the information is current, as administrative boundaries can be reorganized.
