Stamp duty & registration benefit in 80c, if paid by builder

Tax planning 232 views 2 replies

Dear All,

I am planning to buy a new ready to move flat from builder directly.

The builder is saying that I shall pay the stamp duty & registration charges in his company name & then he will pay it to concerned authorities.

but my query is that if he pays the Stamp duty then will I be able to claim the tax benefit under 80C ?

Please can anyone comment on this and help me get the clear picture.

Regards,

Mayank

Unless the same is specified in the agreement as stamp duty & registration charges (separately), you won't be able to claim...........

Be careful in this transaction. When u pay full amount get the flat registered in your name with registration authoritites, whoever pays the stamp duty. Sometimes the flat is sold to someone else  and only the cheque portion is returned to original buyer.
