Show cause notice to dealer

We are one of the importers of scrap from abroad with Dealer category. As, we are dealer, we have to file quarterly return online but due to problem with the dealer utility, we were not able to file the return. Subsequently, we approached the Excise department for the problem being faced by us in filing the return and error in the dealer utility. But the department asked for unrelavent details like balance sheet, sales-purhcase data, etc. stating that there is delay in filing the return. 

Subsequently, we dropped a query through e-mail to the Central Excise department and we got reply from them that we need to file the return with Hard Copy rather than filing online till the problem is solved. We submitted the return with the central excise after 1 and half months from the end of the quarter. We provided the data stating the reason for delay in filng the return and copy of e-mail from the Central Excise. 

Now, we got a show cause notice from the department for delay in filing the return. If we do not reply than than the case would be adjudicated ex-parte on the basis of evidences available on record.

My query is that how should we reply to the department for ths show cause notice. Is there any standard format for the reply.
