Quick Summary
A CA Final student is seeking advice on short-term courses to complement their studies for the November exams. They are considering Financial Modelling, an Ind AS certification, and DipIFR. Responses suggest Financial Modelling is excellent for finance and valuation roles, Ind AS is crucial for Indian accounting specialisation, and DipIFR offers global IFRS recognition. The best choice depends on individual career aspirations, with a recommendation to select a course that fits within their demanding study schedule.

Hey Raji! Great that you’re looking to upskill alongside your CA Final preparations. Here’s a quick take on the courses you mentioned:

1. Financial Modelling (IMS Proschool)

  • Very practical skill, especially useful if you want to work in finance, valuation, investment banking, or even corporate finance.

  • Helps build Excel skills + ability to analyze business cases.

  • Good for interviews and client-facing roles.

2. Ind AS Certification (EY)

  • Focused on Indian Accounting Standards, very relevant as Ind AS is mandatory for listed and large companies.

  • Deep dive into accounting principles, useful if you want to specialize in accounting, audit, or financial reporting.

  • Adds credibility, especially for audit or advisory roles.

3. DipIFR (KPMG/PwC)

  • Diploma in International Financial Reporting Standards.

  • Globally recognized and ideal if you want to work with multinational companies or in global accounting roles.

  • Good if you want to deepen your understanding of IFRS beyond Ind AS.

What to choose?

  • If your goal is audit/financial reporting/accounting: Go for Ind AS certification or DipIFR (DipIFR has wider international acceptance).

  • If your goal is finance, valuation, or corporate strategy: Go for Financial Modelling.

  • If time is limited, start with one course that aligns best with your career goals and interests.

Bonus tips:

  • Check course duration, fees, and flexibility.

  • Some courses offer placement or internship support, which might be a bonus.

  • Since you’re preparing for CA Final, pick a course that won’t overload your schedule.

Hey I would say those are great options! And I hope one of them has paved you a path towards your goal. I just figured I'd add one more to the list as a suggestion. It's IIM SKills Financial Modelling and Valuation course. Heard really good things about it. Very content oriented and they provide online classes.   Plus it's a good blend of old school excel approach and using generative AI to their advantage to get faster results.
